Gramática

Adjectives

Un adjetivo es una palabra que describe o da más información sobre un sustantivo o un pronombre. Los adjetivos van antes del sustantivo que modifican, a menos que estén enlazados al sustantivo por un linking verb.

Ejemplos

The blue car. El coche azul.
He walks along the rocky beach in the dark, stormy night. Él camina por la playa rocosa en la noche oscuro y tormentosa.
The thick, soft pillow fell onto the floor. La almohada gruesa y blanda cayó al suelo.
The large black dog is barking. El perro grande y negro está ladrando.

Un linking verb es un verbo que describe un estado de ser o experiencia sensorial. Algunos linking verbs comunes son be, look, seem, feel, y smell. Cuando el adjetivo está enlazado al sustantivo por un linking verb, el adjetivo se coloca después del verbo.

Una plantilla frase muy común en Inglés es:
Subject + be + adjective.

El sujeto puede ser cualquier persona, lugar o cosa. Usando esta plantilla de frase, podrás describir objetos en inglés.

Para preguntar si un objeto tiene una determinada característica o atributo, puedes usar la siguiente plantilla de frase:
Be + subject + adjective?

Para decir que algo no tiene una característica, puedes usar la siguiente plantilla de frase:
Subject + be not + adjective.

Ejemplos

I am tired. Estoy cansado.
She is happy. Ella está feliz.
Is she happy? ¿Ella está feliz?
She is not happy. Ella no está feliz.
The book is old. El libro es viejo.
The old book is interesting. El viejo libro es interesante.
The night is dark and stormy. La noche es oscura y tormentosa.
He is wet and cold. Él es mojado y frío.

Algunos adjetivos describen la cantidad de un sustantivo, como few, some, many, y all.

Cuando se usan dos o más adjetivos para describir un sustantivo, generalmente están separados por la palabra and o una coma.

Joffre Lake
The lake is very beautiful.
